Chapter III - An Evening with the Boss

Back in his hotel room, Jim meets a new companion - Ethan, a handsome blond boy about the same age as Jim. Ethan is to escort Jim to a meeting with the 'Boss' at a nearby restaurant. At the same time a delivery is made of more clothes for Jim so that he can appear suitably dressed for the occasion. The boys are then taken in a chauffeur driven Cadillac to an exclusive, roof-top restaurant, overlooking the sea, where they meet the 'Boss'......
The boy was taken back to his room - number 33 - by one of the dark suited young men.
On entering the room, he lay down, on his back, on the bed, staring up at the ceiling. 'Jim', as he was now, apparently to be called, was confused.
Things had moved very quickly.
The previous night he had been lying in a dank alley, not knowing who he was, or where he was, or how he had got there.
Now, even although much of that had not changed, he had, at least been given an identity, seemed to have some 'friends' - possibly the 'Boss' and Doctor Lockwood, and he had a place to stay, food, and clean, dry clothes.
And all of that was better than nothing. Jim jerked out of his reverie - the door buzzer had sounded. Jim, puzzled, got up and answered the door.

Ethan
Much to his surprise his visitor was a very slim, very blond boy, wearing a beautiful dark blue suit, complete with a dark shirt and tie, and a handkerchief in his breast pocket that seemed to be in the Club jaguar colours of blue and purple.
"Hi ! I'm Ethan... I'm your boy for the night..... No ! that sounds wrong ! I'm your escort.....No !
Lets just say I'll be having dinner with you and the boss tonight."
And he sighed in relief.
"I see....", Jim said, grinning.
"And you're Jim ?", Ethan said, and Jim nodded.
"That's good, otherwise I might have been in the wrong room....", and he giggled.
On immediate acquaintance, Jim thought he was charming, if a bit zany.
What puzzled Jim, however, was that 'Ethan' seemed strangely familiar.
"Have we met before ?", Jim asked, tentatively.
"No...never....as far as I know.", Ethan said nervously.
They shook hands, and Jim invited his guest to sit in one of the black leather armchairs.
Jim, in an attempt to distract Ethan from the odd question he had just asked, quickly changed the subject.
"I really like your clothes - but if everyone's dressed like you at wherever it is we are going this evening, then I think I'm going to look a bit out of place."
"No....don't worry, Jim.
The 'Boss' is sending you up some really 'cool' clothes.
You'll look great.", Ethan explained, reassuringly.
And at that very moment the door buzzer went.
"That'll be the 'bell-boy' - or rather the 'buzzer-boy', with your consignment.", Ethan said, giggling at his own 'joke', as Jim got up to answer the door.

"Delivery from the 'Boss' !", the young 'bell-boy' said, and Ethan quickly crossed over to the door, and scrunched a couple of bills in the boy's hand.
Jim took the bags, and put them on the bed.
"Sorry about that - but I've got no money at all - but if I get some I'll pay you back.", Jim said, apologetically.
"No matter, Jim !
The Boss always makes sure I have plenty of money, and he'll do the same for you - probably tonight.
Just give him a little time.", Ethan said.
Jim then opened the packages.
One contained a beautiful suite, similar to Ethan's.
Another had a shirt, tie, and onx and gold cuff-links - in a leather box.
The third package contained shoes and socks.
"Told you, Jim - the 'Boss' always delivers.", Ethan said, with and air of self satisfaction, as he examined the suite.
"Yes - so I see." Jim replied, hesitantly.
"I know we've only just met - but there's something that's worrying me.
What are we expected to do in return for theses clothes, money and a roof over our head ?", Jim asked.
"Now sit down, Jim, and let me explain.", Ethan said in an avuncular manner.
"That's exactly what I was thinking when the 'Boss' first took me on.
I was sure he would be wanting sex, a fuck, or jerk-off or something more kinky.
But no...
Maybe he gets his kicks like that with some street boys or girls or someone, but not with his 'best boys'.
He looks to us to respect him, and he respects us."
"So what are we for - I mean for him.", Jim asked, still puzzled.
"I'm not sure...", Ethan replied.
"For 'decoration' ?.... or maybe like some rich guys like to be surrounded by beautiful painting, an all.
Or maybe we just make him feel young - yeah, I thinks he likes to be with young people, and imagines that we're all young guys, just 'hanging out'.
No matter, Jim - as far as I know, your'e safe with the 'Boss' - maybe not with me, but definitely with the 'Boss'.", and Ethan gave a wicked smile, and a wink.
But don't worry - only if you want to.....", and Ethan left the meaning of that sentence open.
"OK...well that explains a lot.
Thanks, Ethan.
And now I think I'd better change into this new outfit." Jim said, laying out his new clothes.
Considering what Ethan had said previously, Jim decided that, although he quite fancied Ethan, he didn't, at that point, want to encourage the boy, so he took his clothes, minus his shoes, into the bathroom, and closed the door.
What Jim thought was strange was that the clothes were a perfect fit.
Of course, he was not taking into account the fact that the whole building, including his bedroom and bathroom, were bugged with audio and video - and stills from the HD video would probably provide everything that a computer would need to extrapolate 3D staistics.
Jim
A few moments later Jim emerged from the bathroom, went over to the bed, and put his shoes and socks on.
He then stood in front of Ethan
"How do I look ?", he asked.
"Really cute." Ethan replied, grinning.
Jim sat down, feeling a bit awkward in his new clothes.
"So what do we do now ?", he asked Ethan nervously.
"We just wait a short while for the chauffeur to come up and take us down to the limousine.", Ethan replied casually.
"Sorry - I don't understand.
What's a chauffeur, and what's a limousine.", Jim asked, obviously embarrassed.
"Oh...I forgot.
They told me that you'd lost your memory, but I didn't think it was that bad.
A chauffeur is a guy that drives the car - for people that are so rich that they wouldn't be seen dead driving themselves."
Jim nodded.
He understood that easily.
"A limousine is just a fancy name for a very big, and a very expensive car.
The one that we'll be using tonight is probably a huge, black Cadillac.
In fact almost all the cars belonging to the 'Boss' are huge, black Cadilacs !"
Ethan said, grinning.
"So how do we pay for the driver ?", Jim naively asked.
"You mean the chauffeur....?", Ethan corrected.
"We don't - he works for the 'Boss', and in this case for us.
And he also acts as a 'bodyguard' as well, and there's another guy with him, who sits up front, 'riding 'shotgun' as they say, who also acts as a 'bodyguard'."
"Ok," Jim replied, "And why do we need 'bodyguards' ?", Jim asked, looking nervous.
"Obvious.....we're very important young guys !", Ethan replied, smiling.
And then the door buzzer went.
"Ah ! That should be our chauffeur.", Ethan said brightly.
"Now just leave the talking to me.
With your weird memory loss, there's a chance you may say something stupid, and I don't want Chuck thinking that your crazy, or something." Ethan said, as he went to the door.
"Hi Chuck - I think we're nearly ready."
"Good evening, Sir.", the chauffeur replied.
Chuck was tall, and handsome, and probably in his late twenties - and wearing a black jacket and trousers, and wearing a black peaked cap.

"The 'Caddy's' waiting for you, down stairs, Sir,", Chuck said respectfully. (note, not 'caddie', which is a golfing term).
"Great, Chuck.
Now may I introduce you to Jim.
I think that you'll be doing a lot of driving for Jim in the future."
Chuck turned to Jim.
"Good evening Sir.
I look forward to working for you.", Chuck said, paying careful attention to his new passenger.
"Do you have any luggage, Sirs ?", Chuck asked discreetly.
"No Chuck - but you might have to come back here and pick some things up later tonight.", Ethan explained.
"Of course, Sir".
Ethan then guided Jim to the door.
"And remember, Chuck - Room 33 - and get Frank to use the pass key.", Ethan added.
"Of course, Sir."
And so they left the room - and it would be the last time that Jim used the room - although he did not know it at the time, and they made their way to the elevator.
"Which auto is it tonight ?", Ethan asked, as he pressed the button to summon the elevator.
"It's the Series 70 Eldorado Brougham - a nice 'retro' model, Sir.
I know that you like it.", Chuck explained.
"That's good !", Ethan enthused.
"You'll really like this one, Jim.
It's more expensive than a Rolls.", Ethan explained.
"Oh....", Jim replied, not having any idea of what Ethan was talking about.
And so they left the elevator, and walked into the foyer.
From there they left the air conditioned coolness (in both sense of the word) of the hotel and went out onto the street, while Chuck met up with his assistant, and booked out at the reception.
Ethan, Jim and the  chauffeur, Chuck, - and the Cadillac Eldorado Brougham
And there it was.....
Jim turned to Ethan - "Oh shit !" - so that's what you mean by a limousine ....!".
Chuck then joined them, along with his co-driver.
The rear doors were opened for the two boys, and then the huge vehicle smoothly drew away from the hotel entrance.
Jim settled back in the luxurious leather upholstery, drinking in the sights and bright lights of the city.
Inside the air-conditioned limousine, however there was almost no noise, apart from the soothing music being played by the on-board mp3 player.
"I can't believe this thing is so big !", Jim said, looking round at the interior.
"Oh, this is nothing.
You should see the stretch limos that the 'Boss' has - but they're not so classic or elegant as this baby." Ethan said.
"So, Ethan, where are we going ?", Jim asked, finally feeling that he could relax, now that he had someone of his own age to talk to - and also, and this puzzled him, someone who was also strangely familiar.
"We're just going to a quiet restaurant, where the 'Boss' promised to meet us for an evening meal, and a chat.
And behave, because it's one of the many places round here that the 'Boss' owns."
The drive was soon over, and the limousine pulled up outside an expensive looking hotel.
Chuck quickly got out and opened the door for Ethan and Jim.
"I think you know you way, Sir." Chuck said to Ethan.
"We'll be waiting for you."
The boys then entered the foyer, and made for one of the elevators, which took them up to the top floor.
Roof-Top Restaurant
The elevator doors opened onto a roof-top dining area, overlooking the sea, and Jim suddenly felt very nervous.
"You know, Ethan, I've no memory of ever being in a place like this before.
You say it's an eating place ?", Jim queried.
"Now don't start getting weird on me with your freaky memory, Jim.
Yes ! It's just a restaurant - a place where people go to eat, so just keep your eyes open, watch everyone else, and do what they do - and if you're not sure - ask me." Ethan replied, sounding exasperated.
Almost immediately the elegantly dressed maître d' approached Ethan.
"Good evening Master Ethan." he said, with a faintly effeminate lisp.
"Good evening, André." Ethan replied, looking round the roof-top terrace.
"The 'Boss' is expecting you.
Shall I take you to him ?", André lisped.
"Yes - and this is Jim - you'll probably be seeing quite a lot of him." Ethan said.
"Oh, I do hope so, Sir." André replied - the double entendre obviously intended.
"Now you behave yourself !", Ethan retorted, only half seriously.
André  led the way, and they soon found the 'Boss' sitting alone at a table, nursing what looked to be a 'Jack Daniel's'.
The 'Boss', perhaps surprisingly, stood up, and held his hand out to Ethan.
"Good evening, Ethan.
I see you've brought young Jim with you."
Ethan nodded, while André silently hovered nearby, assiduously observing the situation, as he attempted to establish the status of the new, attractive young friend of his 'Boss'.
"And Jim - my boy - you look so smart and elegant.
Excellent !".
"Now gentlemen take a seat."
The two boys sat down either side of their host.
"And what would you care to drink, ?", the 'Boss' asked.
"Same as you, Sir, if that's OK ?", Ethan said, winking at Jim.
The 'Boss' gave him an odd look.
"And you, Jim ?", the 'Boss' asked.
"Oh, just some water.", Jim replied.
"Good....André, a bottle of 'Veen 5' for Jim  here, and a 'Pepsi Max' for Ethan, and another 'Jack Daniel's' for me, - and then send us that nice blond waiter.
André minced off, noting the response of the 'Boss' to the order for drinks.
Ethan didn't get his 'Jack Daniel's', which was not surprising, as the 'Boss' was careful not to break the licensing laws - Ethan being under age - although Ethan was always trying, - but Jim, who asked for just water, was ordered 'Veen 5', from Finland at $23 per 750 ml !
To  André's odd way of thinking, that was a sign of favour from the 'Boss', and this boy 'Jim' would need cultivating.
After the waiter had brought the drinks, he then brought a trolley with what appeared to Juim to be mounds of silver utensils, and fine crockery
The waiter then began arranging these superb items of table ware and cutlery, on the table in a complicated pattern, duplicated for Ethan, the 'Boss' and himself.
Jim was puzzled.
"What's all this stuff he's putting out on the table ?" Jim whispered to Ethan.
"Its called table-ware, dummy.
Has your excuse for a memory seized up again ?", Ethan replied, annoyed that Jim seemed to understand so few everyday things.
"Don't worry, Jim.", the 'Boss' interrupted.
'Service 'à la russe'
"Tonight we are dining  'à la russe'."
"Á la what ?", Jim parroted, thinking the 'Boss' was making fun of him.
"It's 'service 'à la russe'.", the 'Boss' replied, smiling.
"It's a way dining, Jim, that is conducted in good quality restaurants, and some people's homes, and involves courses being brought to the table sequentially.
Because of this, all the cutlery is usually placed on the table at the beginning of the meal.
The place setting - called a 'cover' - for each diner includes a service plate, all the necessary cutlery except those required for dessert, and stemmed glasses for water, wines and champagne.
On the service plate there is usually is a rolled napkin.
Above the service plate is a salt-cellar, nut dish, and a often a menu."
As the 'Boss' explained all this to Jim, the young waiter looked on admiringly - after all, the 'Boss' was his boss.
"And don't think you're a 'dummy', Jim, because Ethan here had to have most of this explained to him when he first came to me.", the 'Boss' added, and Ethan blushed.
"Sorry Jim." Ethan said shyly.
"Don't worry - I know all this memory business is annoying for everyone - including me.", Jim replied, gazing at the glittering tableware, and the 'Boss' smiled benevolently, pleased to see that the boys were getting on well.
Once the table had been prepared, it was time to order.....
Jim had no idea what to order - mainly because the menu was in French, but also because he couldn't remember what food he liked - apart from the cheeseburger he had enjoyed in room 33.
The 'Boss' decided on venison, and Jim copied him, although he had no idea of what venison was.
Ethan, however, wanted medium stake, with all the trimmings.
First however, there was hors d'oeuvre.
"So, Jim, what did you think of the limousine ?", the 'Boss' asked - obviously beginning with 'small talk'.
"It was amazing.... wonderful !", Jim replied enthusiastically.
"Good....you see Ethan's got this 'thing' about old Cadillacs - you do realize that that auto is many years old ?", the 'Boss' said.
Jim looked suprised.
"No - I thought it was brand new !".
The 'Boss' smiled at Ethan.
"Well it has been restored, and some new equipment installed, like the mp3 and CD player, and flat screen TVs in the backs of the front seats."
The 'Boss' paused, letting Jim take in the information.
Cadillac Series 70 Eldorado Brougham
"When that auto was new, some time ago, it cost about $13,00 - and now, to buy one, and they're very rare, as only 704 were built,  it would cost you at least  $180,000." - and of course that wouldn't include the cost of refurbishment.", the 'Boss' explained.
"And what did you pay for it ?", Jim boldly asked.
"Well, that would be telling, - but a lot.
You see, I collect Cadillacs, among other things."
"I see, Sir." Jim replied.
"I hope you didn't think I was being rude asking you about the price, Sir", Jim continued,
"And I must admit that I don't really know how much a dollar is worth - but it sounds a lot."
"Well, Jim - it is a lot for most people, but there are plenty of wealthy people who can afford to pay for such 'toys'." the 'Boss' concluded.
"People like you, Sir.",Ethan added, grinning.
"Yes.", the 'Boss' sighed.
"And that's lucky for you, Ethan....because the toys that you like are very expensive.", the 'Boss' continued, at the same time looking at Ethan, as he finished off his 'Jack Daniel's', prior to moving onto the wine.
The main course then arrived.
"If you don't mind, I have another question, Sir....". Jim began.
"Go on.", the 'Boss' said, looking intrigued.
"Why is the hotel called the 'Club Jaguar' ?".
"That's a difficult question to answer.", the 'Boss' said, as he carefully cut up his venison steak.
"Thought it might be...", Ethan muttered.

"Well, it all happened a long time ago....when I was a young man, not much older than you two.", the 'Boss' explained, as he studiously ignored Ethan.
Palenque
"I was lucky enough, as a student at Yale, to join an expedition to Central America.
The purpose of the expedition was to excavate the site known as Palenque."
Now much of this meant very little to Jim - his knowledge of history and geography seemed to have disappeared to the same place as his knowledge of restaurants, and the value of dollar bills, along with much else, but he didn't interrupt, as he had a strange feeling that he was going to discover something significant.
"The city of Palenque had been built by the Maya - in the southern Mexican state of Chiapas, and the city flourished in the 7th century.
The city was abandoned, for some unknown reason during the 8th century, but many of the descendants of the Maya still live in the area.
Mayan Calendar
The Maya were known for their learning, and their famous calendar, but they also indulged in vicious conflict, and human sacrifice.
But enough of the history lesson...", the 'Boss' said, realising that what he was explaining probably held little of interest for his two dinner guests.
"Yes, very interesting, Sir, but you haven't really answered Jim's question....why the Club Jaguar ?", Ethan piped up.
"Well, when I was in Mexico I met a 'brujo'.", the 'Boss' continued.
"A what ?", Ethan interrupted.
"A 'brujo' - also known as a 'nagual' - like a Mayan holy man, and he taught me about the old Mayan religion.
Búho of the Mayan
Jaguar God of the Night Sun
Apparently the descendants of the Mayans, although pretending to be Roman Catholics, still worshipped the ancient Mayan gods, and even made sacrifices to them - although not human sacrifices, so they said - but sacrifices of animals.
He taught me much, and introduced me to the Mayan 'Jaguar God' of the 'Night Sun', and his associated 'búho', or owl - and that's why I got fascinated with the idea of the Jaguar.", the 'Boss' concluded.
Jim had listened carefully to this explanation, but when the 'Boss' mentioned the Jaguar's companion, the owl, he suddenly became dizzy, and dropped his knife and fork on his plate.
Jaguar God of the Night Sun
"Are you OK ?", Ethan asked.
"The 'Boss' is only telling 'fairy stories' to scare the kids.", Ethan said, trying to lighten the conversation.
"Yes, I'm OK...just a little tired."
"Well, I'm not surprised !", the 'Boss' commented, "after all you've been through.
So if you want to 'call it a night', (Jim didn't really understand the phrase), and get some sleep, that's OK.", the 'Boss' said, obviously concerned.
"No...I'm fine !
Sorry to alarm you.
Go on......what you were saying, Sir, was very interesting.", Jim said, resuming his meal.
The 'Boss' paused for a moment, looking thoughtfully at Jim, as he sipped his wine.
"Well thank you Jim.
But that's all there really is to tell..." the 'Boss' said, his words tailing off, inadvertently indicating that there was probably a lot more to tell - but not at this juncture.

"So..., without spoiling this very enjoyable dinner, I must change to topic of our talk, and discuss some more immediate matters.", the 'Boss' said, indicating to the cute blond waiter to clear away his plate.
Ethan, for the first time since Jim had met him, looked nervous and serious.
The 'Boss' then turned to Jim.
"Jim....we really must do something about this amnesia.
It's not just that it's annoying Ethan - which is of no real consequence - but rather it will make problems for you in the immediate future.
You can't go on not knowing about autos, DVD players, mobile 'phones, TVs, and even how to conduct yourself in a restaurant.
And yet you can talk, read, do up your shoe laces, and endless other normal things.
Your 'amnesia' appears to me to be oddly 'selective', although I'm no expert, so I'm sending you to an eminent psychiatrist - recommended to me by Dr. Lockwood - and hopefully he will be able to sort things out.
And you can take Ethan with you - so you have no need to be nervous.", the 'Boss' carefully explained.
"Ah...so I'm going to be the 'baby-minder'...", Ethan said.
"Yes Ethan, and perhaps the psychiatrist can sort you out as well...", the 'Boss' riposted.
"Probably...", Ethan replied, dejectedly.
"Any way.....lets finish with all this spooky talk of gods and human sacrifice.
What's next on the agenda ?", Ethan said, pushing his plate aside.
"Good point, Ethan.
There is one more important matter to discuss." the 'Boss' responded, draining his wine glass.
"Which is....?", Ethan said expectantly.
"Well, it's quite simple really....
Where is young Jim going to live ?", the 'Boss' asked, rhetorically.
"Mm...I've a good idea where, but you've got it all worked out, Sir - so just say it...", Ethan said, looking intently at Jim.
"Well you have got a massive apartment, Ethan, with three en-suite bedrooms, two big lounges, a private cinema and so forth, and a pool on the roof - so there's plenty of room for Jim." the 'Boss' explained.
"Actually, I agree.", Ethan replied.
"Jim and I seem to get on well, apart from this stupid memory problem - but with all of us helping him, and this psychiatrist, I' sure he'll be back to normal soon." Ethan said, holding up his glass to the blond young waiter, in the hope of some more Pepsi Max.
"Now there's one thing I must make clear - but it's a bit personal.", the 'Boss' said, lowering his voice a little, and speaking initially to Ethan.
"Jim, if you understand me correctly, is strictly 'out of bounds' to everyone, in the same way that you are, Ethan unless you have my approval.
So I'm telling you now that there's no problem, as far as I'm concerned, with you, Ethan, and Jim 'getting together', as you will be living together, as I am well aware of your tastes, Ethan.
However, I know nothing of Jim's inclinations, so what you do together is very much up to him."
Jim listened, but didn't really understand what the 'Boss' was talking about.
"I'm sorry sir, but I'm not sure what your really meaning about 'getting together', and my 'inclinations ?', Jim said, looking very embarrassed.
"He's talking about sex, Jim, but he's too much of a gentleman to say it bluntly.", Ethan said, grinning.
"Oh...I see.
Well, sir, I think that Ethan and I are very similar, so I don't think it should be a problem.", Jim replied, looking more relieved.
"I'm glad to hear that.
I don't pry into my boy's private lives, but I need to know what is going on.
You have to understand that there are lots of unscrupulous character that might get  - shall we say - very friendly, just for what they could get out of you, and not only in gifts and money, but also information - and that's why I need to know who you are going with, and what's going on.".
Jim nodded.
"I understand, Sir.
"And that's why we have Chuck and the other guy as bodyguards, looking after us.", Jim added.
"Exactly, Jim.", the 'Boss' replied, smiling.
"Well that's settled then....
You go with Ethan to his apartment - and pick up your other clothes from Room 33 on the way, and tomorrow you and Ethan come and see me, in the morning, and I'll see you about the psychiatrist guy - and you can tell me if you can bear to stay with 'crazy Ethan'.
And here's something for your expenses, - that's just for the moment, until we arrange an account for you.", the 'Boss' said, as he discretely passed a thick envelope to Jim."
Ethan screwed up his face (but even then he still looked cute), but Jim, realizing how much he was indebted to the 'Boss', decided to be polite.
"OK, and thanks for a great meal, Sir, and a very interesting conversation." Jim said, rising to his feet, while Ethan interjected with one word - not seriously meant, however - "Creep !".
Jim shook hands with the 'Boss', and Ethan did likewise.
"And be gentle with him, Ethan", the 'Boss' said, with a smile.
"It's me you should be worried about - not him !", Ethan said, smirking, as they parted.
"So do we pay for the meal now ?", Jim asked, as they left the table.
"Shit !, You still don't understand, dummy.
The 'Boss' owns the place...everything's paid for !", Ethan relied, exasperated one again.
"Can't you remember anything ?".
"Yes .....sorry !", Jim replied, as they were approached by André.
"Was everything satisfactory, Master Ethan ?", he lisped - talking to Ethan but not taking his eyes off Jim.
"Wonderful, André !
Now where's that pretty blond waiter !", Ethan replied with a question.
André clicked his fingers and summoned the boy, and Ethan stuffed a bunch of bills into the boy's hand.
"Good work !".

Jim and Ethan are driven back to the Club Jaguar, where Jim picks up his clothes.
They are then driven by Chuck to Ethan's apartment.
Jim gets a set of keys from the concierge, and is then taken up to Ethan' lavish, luxurious apartment - and then to bed ?
