The 'Boss' gives Jim and Ethan membership of an exclusive gym, which also allows them to use the well equipped diving and swimming pools. At the same time the 'Boss' sends Zac to the boys' penthouse - where he delivers a laptop and mobile to both Ethan and Jim. Meanwhile Jim continues to see Dr. Brandt, who begins to develop a theory about Jim's condition that he later explains to the 'Boss'
.Chuck drove them back to the Club Jaguar, and the 'Boss' said his goodbyes, and went off to do whatever a 'Boss' does......
Chuck then drove the boys back to the penthouse, and also helped them with their parcels and packages as they left the limo, and went to the elevator.
As they entered the penthouse Jim was surprised when Ethan called out "Honey, I'm home !".
Jim was even more surprised when an attractive young girl appeared in the corridor.
"But Ethan, I though you were......" Jim began.
"Yes, I am.
This is just Clare.
Clare |
She's our house keeper - or rather our 'pent-house' keeper.", Ethan said laughing.
"Yes - and you're very naughty boys !
You left the place in such a mess - and it took me ages to clear it up, before I could start cleaning.
And, by the way - I do like those tiny Speedos.", she said, with a beautiful, and rather alluring smile.
"Yes - well, you leave our Speedos alone, otherwise I'll start thinking your'e 'pervy' - but we 're sorry about the mess - but we overslept today." Ethan explained.
"I see, and what are all these packages ?", Clare asked.
At the mention of 'packages' Ethan giggled, but thought that maybe Clare didn't realize what she'd said, and decided not to peruse the matter
"Oh they're just stuff the 'Boss' bought us." Ethan said.
"I see - and whose this lovely looking boy with you ?" Clare asked.
"Oh he's just Jim." Ethan replied, dropping his parcels all over the floor.
"Well, Jim - pleased to meet you.
We must get better acquainted.", Clare said.
Jim nodded, and looked embarrassed - as was unable to shake hands because his hands were full of parcels.
"You get off him....he's mine !", Ethan said forcefully.
"Well I guessed that - but I'm sure that you wouldn't mind if I was at least friendly with Jim - that is if he's going to live here.", Clare said, trying to calm Ethan.
"No - of course.
I'm sorry", Ethan said, realizing he was being stupid.
"Well that's OK.
Now would you like me to make you both some coffee, and something to eat ?" Clare asked.
"Yes indeedee ! - Two cheeseburgers !" Ethan said, as he started ripping open one of his parcels.
"Cheeseburgers !....Is that all you ever eat, Ethan?", Jim asked, as he also started opening a parcel.
"Yes - That's all he ever eats.", Clare said, as she left the boys to their parcels, and went to the kitchen, which Jim had never seen, as Ethan had never shown him the kitchen, - probably because Ethan didn't even know where it was.
"So, does she live here with us ? - Clare I mean.", Jim asked, as he and Ethan started examining their new clothes.
"No - of course not, dummy." Ethan replied, as he pulled off his jeans, and pulled on a new pair of shorts.
"She lives in a small aprtment downstairs.
She works for the 'Boss' - cleans and tidies up, and does a little cooking, and keeps an eye on us - you know, like a spy for the 'Boss'."
Clare came into the living room, which was now awash with parcels and bags.
"I heard that, Ethan.", Clare said indignantly.
"No, I'm not a spy for the 'Boss'.", she said, turning to Jim.
"And whatever happens here is your business, and I tell no one else.",Clare concluded emphatically.
"Good....that's nice to know.", Ethan said, trying on a new vest.
"Thank you Ethan - and that looks very sporty, by the way."
Clare then sat down next to Jim, and helped him with the laces of his new trainers.
"So tell me Jim, where do you come from," Clare asked.
"No good asking him,
His memory's all screwed up - a bit like a busted computer.
Ask him - or show him most things, and he simply comes out with 'does not compute'.
But the 'Boss' is getting him fixed, although it might take some time - but when it's done he'll be as good as new - we hope, anyway." Ethan explained.
"I see...", Clare said slowly and thoughtfully.
"That's very sad, Jim, but if I can help in any way, just let me know."
"Thanks, Clare.", Jim replied, surprised at her concern.
"Well, I'll leave you boys to play with your new toys.
The cheeseburgers and coffee will be coming up in a few minutes.", Clare said, as she went off to get on with her work of cleaning, polishing and tidying.
As they were finishing off their cheeseburgers the entry 'phone buzzed.
Ethan walked over to the door, and answered the 'phone.
"Do you want me to answer it, or have you got it ?". Clare called from the kitchen.
"I've got it !", Ethan answered.
Ethan then pressed the button to allow the doors to open.
Jim looked up questioning.
It's this guy called Zac that the 'Boss' mentioned earlier.
The doors opened and Zac appeared, carrying to large packages.
Zac was tall, with dark blonde hair, and penetrating, startling blue eyes, and devastatingly handsome.
Jim, who was standing in the centre of the living room, finishing his cheeseburger, promptly fainted when Zac came into the room, collapsing in a heap on the floor.
"Oh shit !", Ethan muttered.
"Oh shit !", Ethan muttered.
"Don't worry.", Ethan said to Zac, "this sort of thing quite often happens.
He's got a wonky brain, but the 'Boss' knows, and he's getting it fixed."
Zac looked puzzled, but immediately put his packages down, went over to Jim, and knelt beside him, holding his hand.
"Clare, bring a glass of water ! - Jim's fainted !", Ethan called out.
Slowly Jim came round.
"Are you OK, Jim ?", Ethan, obviously alarmed, asked kneeling beside his prostrate friend.
"Yes...I'm sorry, I just had one of those stupid 'flashbacks'.
I'll be all right now,", Jim said, sitting up.
Clare arrived, and gave Jim a glass of water.
"Sure you're OK, Jim ?, Zac said, looking concerned.
"Sure - who is it ?.... Zac, yes, your Zac.", Jim said, rather strangely.
"Yes, I'm Zac, and you're Jim, and this is Ethan - yes ?", Zac said gently.
"Yes.", Jim answered.
"I'm OK, really.", Jim insisted.
"Ethan, help him up, and get him to sit in a chair.", Zac said, taking control of the situation.
And while Ethan was helping Jim, Zac made a mobile call to Dr. Lockwood.

"Yes.", Jim answered.
"I'm OK, really.", Jim insisted.
"Ethan, help him up, and get him to sit in a chair.", Zac said, taking control of the situation.
And while Ethan was helping Jim, Zac made a mobile call to Dr. Lockwood.
'On the 'phone Dr.Lockwood said that as long as Jim was not showing any unusual symptoms he should be OK, but Zac was to stay with him for the rest of the day, and keep an eye on him, and report back if he was any way concerned. Lockwood added that he would be seeing Jim the following morning - and not to worry.'
"I just talked to Dr. Lockwood, and he says everything's OK, as long as you take it easy.", Zac said to Jim.
"Thanks Zac.", Jim replied.
And so, gradually, everyone began to relax, and Clare returned to the kitchen, and Jim seemed to have totally recovered.
"So what's in the packages ?", Ethan asked Zac.
"Presents form the 'Boss', Zac said, mysteriously.
"So can we open them ?", Jim asked.
"Of course !", Zac said.
So Jim started opening the package with his name on it, and Ethan did the same with the other package.
"Wow !" - A laptop", Ethan exclaimed.
"Fuck me, it's a MacBook Pro 13"!", Ethan then said, getting more enthusiastic by the minute.
"Yes..and I've got one that looks the same ! - But what is it ?", Jim said, excited, and apparently having completely forgotten what had just happened a few moments previously.
"It's a fuckin' computer, Jim !", Ethan said - exasperated once again.
"Ignore him, Jim", Zac said.
"Now boys, they're top of the range, and as for you Jim, I'll show what it's for, and how to use it.", Zac explained.
"Thanks Zac.", Jim replied.
And so, gradually, everyone began to relax, and Clare returned to the kitchen, and Jim seemed to have totally recovered.

"Now boys, they're top of the range, and as for you Jim, I'll show what it's for, and how to use it.", Zac explained.
"Now just listen, both of you.
The 'Boss' doesn't want you just looking at 'porn'.
He's particularly concerned that you use it to purchase items for yourselves that are not available in the local stores here.
I have control of all the accounts - which have already been set up - on these computers, so you will need to get my permission to order anything.
If I'm not around, my mobile number is on both computers - just search for 'Zac Mobile'.
Oh, and here's a mobile for each of you - but the internet option has been deactivated, so you can only use the laptops for accessing the internet."
Jim and Ethan's Galaxy S8 Plus Mobiles |
"The chargers and USB connections I will bring tomorrow morning."
So Jim, we'll just leave Ethan the screw up his laptop, and I'll show you how to use yours.
Zac was obviously skilled with computer equipment, and very soon he had the laptop connected to the power supply and switched on.
Jim's Laptop |
Jim did not know what to expect, but was obviously surprised when a sweet voice said 'Hello Jim', and a welcome screen opened up with the Club Jaguar logo glowing magically on the screen.
"You see, Jim, Zac's already set it all up - just for you.", Ethan said with a slight tinge of jealousy in his voice, until his own laptop, with what sounded like Zac's voice, suddenly said "Hi Ethan !".
"Wow, it knows me "", Ethan said, "and talks in a 'cool' way. - thanks Zac."
"Now Jim, one of the many things that we can do with a computer is buy things, from anywhere in the world - just like buying something from a shop here.
The 'Boss' had arranged for both you and Ethan to have a sizeable sum available to you each - so you don't have to worry about the cost of anything you buy coming from your own private 'stash'.
But - and this is important, you can't just go buying anything you like.
Yo must get my approval, and if I'm not sure about the purchase, I will clear it with the 'Boss' - but that would only happen with expensive items.
The 'Boss' can't be bothered with lots of little purchases.
Is that clear - and this applies to you too, Ethan.", and Zac waited for a response.
Both boys said 'yes', and nodded in agreement.
"Good.", Ethan said smiling.
"And now, Ethan, let's see how much damage you've done to your laptop", Zac said, deliberately teasing young Ethan - and trying to hide the fact that he had taken an instant liking to the blond boy.
"Well, that's really good, Ethan.
It seems to be all 'up and running' perfectly !", Zac said, obviously surprised.
"Yes...well I have used a computer before - admittedly not one as 'flash' as this !, Ethan replied proudly.
And so they spent the rest of the day, playing with their laptops, and Zac took care to show Jim how to use a mobile 'phone.
What puzzled Zac most about Jim was the fact that he seemed to have no understanding about simple everyday things, like 'phones, computers, mp3s, cd players, and he had absolutely no idea of how the lavish home cinema in the penthouse worked.
Other things, that most ordinary people would consider strange to have in a house, like a 'live in servant', or luxurious pools and baths, Jim seemed perfectly at home with, as if they had maybe been part of some strange previous life that he had experienced.
Eventually Zac summoned up the courage to ask Jim why he had fainted.
"I really don't know,", Jim had answered, "but - and I don't want to upset you - it seemed that when I saw you at the door, something happened to me - some sort of shattering recognition that I was unable to cope with."
Zac was puzzled.
"Well if you had some memory of me - I can assure you that I have no memory of you - and I think, with a memorable and attractive face like yours, if I had seen you, I would have probably pursued you, and made your acquaintance - because, as you have probably already worked out, I have a great liking for boys.
I hope that's not a problem for you." Zac explained quietly.
"No, not at all, Zac.", Jim replied, not wanting, at that stage, to commit himself any further.
"Well just explain it all to Doc. Lockwood, and I'm sure he will help.", Zac suggested.
Actually, it's not Doctor Lockwood who is helping me, it's some German psychiatrist, Dr, Brandt.
He's supposed to be one of the best - hired by the 'Boss' to get me sorted out.", Jim said.
"That's good, Jim.
Your very lucky to have the 'Boss'.
He'll always do the best for you - like he has for me - but that's another story
Sometime I might tell you"...., Zac said, turning back to the laptop to continue Jim's instruction.
And so they ended the evening watching a movie, and then went to bed, which Jim had to share, not only with Ethan, but also with Ethan's new mobile that he wouldn't be parted from.
Zac went back to his own apartment, which apparently was just below the penthouse, so apparently he was a neighbour.
Morning.....
The door buzzer rang - once, and then twice.
The door buzzer rang - once, and then twice.
Ethan sat up jerkily, and grabbed his new mobile.
It was telling him there had been two calls.
Then he realized it wasn't the mobile making the noise, but the entry 'phone.
"Oh shit ! We've over slept again !" he moaned.
Quickly pulling on some briefs, he rushed to the door.
"Who is it ?", Ethan shouted down the 'phone.
"It's Zac.", came the reply.
"OK....Zac who....?", Ethan replied, having no idea who it was.
"You know....Zac from the 'Boss'", the voice said, sounding rather annoyed.
"Oh...that Zac.
Well what do you want ?", Ethan asked, still confused.
"You're going for a jog...remember ?", Zac said, getting even more annoyed.
"Oh yes....", Ethan said, pressing the button to open the doors.
Zac walked in wearing sports top, sweatpants and trainers - all Nike, of course..
"Morning Ethan.
And you'd better get rid of that,", he said, pointing to the huge bulge in Ethan's briefs, "before you're seen in public with me !".
"Oh ...yes.", Ethan said looking down at his crotch.
"Well, I just got up.", Ethan said.
"Yes ... and so did that.", Zac said smirking.
"Well you could always help me get rid of it ?", Ethan said, trying to sound 'sexy', but not very successfully.
At that moment Jim staggered into the hall, stark naked.
"What is it with you guys ?" Zac asked grinning.
Are you always permanently 'horny' ?", Zac said, shaking his head.
Jim looked down at his jerking dick.
"Sorry...I wasn't thinking...", and slunk away back into the bedroom.
"Now Ethan, the 'Boss' wants you to join me in a 'morning jog', so get yourself ready, and we'll be off.
And go tell Jim that Chuck will be on his way to take him to see this Dr. Brandt.", Zac said.
"OK...", Ethan replied, with a distinct note of resignation in his voice.
Zac then sat himself down, and scanned through calls and texts on his mobile, while Ethan and Jim, from the noise they were making, seemingly demolished their bedroom in a frantic attempt to find their clothes, and prepare for the morning's activities.
Eventually Ethan emerged in his sweatpants, vest and trainers, looking less that enthusiastic, and Jim made an appearance, a little later, in jeans an casual top.
The front doors then opened, and Clare arrived, looking fresh and beautiful.
"Hi boys ! - hi Zac !" Clare said brightly.
"Going jogging with Zac ?",Clare said to Ethan, noticing his jogging pants and trainers.
"Suppose so.", Ethan replied sullenly.
"And Jim ? ", Clare asked.
"Oh, he's going to see Dr Brandt.", Zac replied.
"Well that's a relief.
I was quite worried about him yesterday.", Clare said, smiling in a caring way at Jim, and making him blush..
Moments later the buzzer sounded.
"That'll be Chuck, with the limo.", Zac said.
"You answer the entry 'phone, Ethan, and tell him we'll be straight down.", Zac continued, taking control of the situation.
"OK...", Ethan replied, with a distinct note of resignation in his voice.

The plan was for Chuck to drive out to the edge of the town, where there was little traffic, and the air was good, so that Zac and Ethan could jog, while Chuck then took Jim to Dr. Brandt.
Chuck would then return to where he had dropped Zac and Ethan off, and pick them up after their jog, (that was assuming that Ethan didn't require hospitalisation - he was no jogger !).
After taking Zac and Ethan back to the penthouse, Chuck would then return to the town to pick up Jim, as his session with Dr. Brandt was scheduled to be quite long.
While Ethan was painfully pounding the pavements, the Cadillac carrying Jim pulled up smoothly by the entrance to Dr. Brandt's clinic.
Chuck, as always opened the passenger door.
"I will be waiting for you, Sir.", Chuck said reassuringly.
"Thanks...", Jim said, hoping his nervousness didn't show, as he strode across the pavement.
Ever since he'd 'arrived' in this strange world, Jim had found it difficult to cope with glass doors that mysteriously opened as you approached them.

Ever since he'd 'arrived' in this strange world, Jim had found it difficult to cope with glass doors that mysteriously opened as you approached them.
After all - how did they know you were there.
Jim decided that he should ask Zac - at least he wouldn't get upset, or laugh at him, like Ethan.
Elevators, Jim had begun to accept, although this was the first time he had been in one on his own, and he had to ask the security guard to press the right button for him.
However, he was quickly and smoothly taken up the receptionist at Dr. Brandt's consulting suite.
Offered one of those wonderfully luxurious, but not very comfortable 'Barcelona chairs', Jim sat and waited.
While he was waiting, he managed to switch on his mobile 'phone.
The 'phone said 'hello' to him, and the screen glowed invitingly with glittering, jewel like icons, but he didn't have any idea what they were for.
While he was still studying the 'touch screen', a door opposite opened, and Dr. Brandt appeared.
"Well hello, Jim.
Good to see you, my boy.", Dr. Brandt said, offering his hand.
Jim shook hands nervously, a little surprised that Dr. Brandt now seemed so friendly and pleased to see him.
"And where's you young friend today ?", Brandt asked, indicating that Jim should follow him into the consulting room.
"Oh he's jogging with Zac.", Jim replied.
"And who's Zac ?, Brandt asked, offering Jim a chair
"He's an employee of the 'Boss', who has the job of keeping an eye on us.", Jim explained.
"And do you need 'keeping an eye on' ?", Brandt asked - the way psychiatrists do.
Jim felt awkward.
"Well no, not really.
Well perhaps Ethan does
But Zac's really there to arrange things for us.", Jim said.
Dr. Brandt then picked up his gold pen and his leather bound notebook.
"Well, Jim, I've been told that when you first met this Zac you fainted - in fact collapsed.
Is this true ?, Brandt asked, leaning back against his desk.
"Well yes, I suppose I did.", Jim replied sheepishly.
"Well,.... it's nothing to be ashamed of, Jim, but what we need to find out is why, seeing this person Zac, you fainted." Brandt said, scribbling something down on his notebook.
"So....?" , Brandt said, his strong German accent becoming very noticeable.
"It's difficult.....
I thought that I knew him....in some way.", Jim said, sounding very confused.
"Good, Jim.
Now remember when you saw me on the previous occasion, and you lay down and relaxed on the couch ?".
Jim nodded.
"Well, will you do that again ?", Brandt said, making an instruction sound like a gentle suggestion.
"Yes, of course.", Jim replied, and lay on the couch, while Brandt took a seat to the rear of the couch, where Jim was unable to see him.
"Now Jim....", Brandt began very softly, "I want you to close your eyes, and relax very deeply."
For a minute or so Brandt said nothing, but limply listened to Jim's breathing as it slowed and became very regular.
"That's very good Jim....just breathe nice and slowly, and try the think of nothing.. and just relax."
Jim felt good, and it seemed to be the first time that he had actually relaxed since that dark rainy night that seemed so long ago.
"Now is it possible that you have seen this Zac somewhere in the city since you arrived, and when he came to the apartment you recognised him ?", Brandt asked.
"No I don't think so.", Jim said slowly - "but I don't think the memory of him is from here !", Jim continued, becoming more excited.
"So if not here, then from where, Jim ?", Brandt asked, very gently, trying to keep Jim calm.
"I think that's what made me faint. ", Jim tried to explain.
"My brain knew, but wouldn't let me remember - and I got a pain in my head, and then everything went black.", Jim said, becoming a little agitated again.
"All right.", Brandt said quietly.
"So let's try to do this in a very gentle, natural way.
Now I don't want you to try and make, or force yourself to remember anything.
Just put a picture in your mind of Zac's face against a blank background - maybe a blank wall in the apartment where you saw him.
Can you do that ?", Brandt asked.
"Yes", Jim mumbled.
"And you are comfortable with that ?", Brandt asked.
"Yes", Jim replied, in a barely audible voice.
"Now let the background become misty and transparent, and see if you can see anything behind Zac's face.", Brandt softly suggested.
There was silence in the room, only disturbed by Jim's deep breathing.
"Yes - yes..... a building..". Jim said
"And ?". Brandt queried.
"It's like that weird casino here, with the columns - and people shouting !", Jim said, getting agitated again.
"That's good Jim, but stay calm.", Brandt said, encouragingly.
And this person, who you now know as Zac, was a friend of yours ?", Brandt asked.
"The best....", Jim answered, as a tear rolled down his cheek.
"And you miss him now ....", Brandt suggested.
"Oh so much !, Jim murmured, as the tears flowed.
"That's fine Jim." Brandt said, passing him some tissues.
"Now dry your eyes, sit up, and let's talk some more.", Brandt said.
"But first I need to make a 'phone call.", and Brandt left the consulting room and went into a private office.
Brandt called the 'Boss', and asked for Zac's mobile number. He then rang Zac, asking him if he ever went to the area in the town around Caesars Palace. Zac indicated that it was not a part of the town that he normally visited. Brandt then asked if Jim had ever visited the hotel, and Zac said no, but he may have passed in in the limo.
(For readers who are not familiar with Vegas, Caesars Palace is luxury hotel and casino situated on the west side of the Las Vegas Strip. It is intended to give guests a supposed sense of life during the Roman Empire. It contains many kitsch statues, columns, and iconography typical of Hollywood Roman period productions.)
Dr. Brandt then returned to the consulting room.
He sat behind his desk, and once again took up his pen and notebook.
"Earlier you mentioned a 'weird' casino with the columns.
When did you see that ?", Brandt asked Jim.
Jim thought hard.
"I think the second day - we passed it in the limo.
I thought it looked really stupid.", Jim replied.
"And did you see Zac anywhere near the Casino when you passed by ?", Brandt asked.
"No - well I couldn't have, because we were moving so fast.", Jim explained.
"So, if you didn't like that 'weird' casino, and you didn't see Zac in that area, why do you think you are associating the casino and Zac together, and why should this cause you to become so disturbed that you faint.", Brandt asked.
"Well I thought that you might know....", Jim replied.
"Yes..Jim, you're very bright boy.
I agree. That is my job, and I am determined to discover what is going on in your mind.", Brandt said, smiling.
"Oh no, Sir...! I didn't mean to be rude.
I just want you to work this out for me.", Jim said obviously flustered and embarrassed.
"I know, Jim. ", Brandt said.
"So now, Jim, I think we should finish - unless you have any questions for me.", and Jim shook his head.
Now I am just beginning to get a possible theory that might explain what has been happening to you, but I need more time, and I need to talk to you more - but it is important that I do not put too much stress on you...so remember what I said last time...relax, get plenty of exercise - which I think this guy Zac will help you with, but it is better if you only talk to me, or Dr. Lockwood about this problem .... with your friends just be relaxed and casual.
So... I will contact Dr. Lockwood and he will tell you when I next want to see you.
Brandt then stood up, guided Jim to the door of the consulting room, and instructed his receptionist to accompany Jim in the elevator to the street level.
Chuck was waiting for Jim by the limo, (it was the white and pink Eldorado).
Jim smiled at Chuck, and thanked him for opening the door.
Sitting in the luxurious interior of the huge auto, Jim was well aware that he was privileged, as he watched the other vehicles in the street, including taxis and buses, and he realized that he owed it all to the 'Boss'.
Jim, however, still did not know how to use the flat screen, the CD player or the mp3 player, and decided that he should ask Zac, as Zac seemed to know about all those sort of gadgets.
When Jim arrived back at the penthouse, he found Ethan half asleep in the steaming large bath.
"He nearly fuckin' killed me !", Ethan moaned, as Jim finally fought his way through the clouds of steam.
"Still, it'll be your turn tomorrow.", Ethan said with a wicked grin.
Jim squatted down beside the marble lined pool.
"So where's Zac ?", Jim asked, as he splashed Ethan.
"He's in his apartment - I think."Ethan replied.
"OK - I'm going down with my computer thing to see if he will show me how to use it.", Jim said.
"Good !", Ethan replied derisively.
"I don't think I could cope with trying to teach you about a computer, and anyway I want to stay in this lovely hot water.",Ethan said, just a little put out that Jim seemed to want to spend time with Zac.
"OK...see you later.", Jim said, and he then collected his laptop, and went down to Zac's apartment.
Zac's apartment was nearly as large as the one occupied by Jim and Ethan.
Zac was surprised to see Jim, but welcomed him in, and was more that happy to help him master the intricacies or the laptop and the mobile.

Meanwhile......
Back at Dr Brandt's offices, a huge, black stretch limo, driven by Kurt, pulled up at the kerb.
Frank, riding 'shotgun', as he like to put it, slid out of the front seat, looked carefully around, and then opened one of the rear doors.
The 'Boss' stepped out onto the side-walk, and instantly made his way into the offices of the renowned psychiatrist.
Moments later the 'Boss' was being greeted by Dr. Brandt.
Offered one of Brandt's large, expensive Havanas, the 'Boss' declined, wanting to get straight down to business.
"You got my 'call, then ?", the 'Boss' began.
"Yes, of course, my friend.
Always ready to discuss matters.", Brandt said, making every effort to be charming.
"Good....well obviously, I want to speak to you about young 'Jim' - as we call him.", the 'Boss' explained.
"And ?". Brandt questioned.
"Well, you've seen him today, and when I 'phoned you you said you were making progress so, rather than a long exchange on the 'phone, I decided to come and speak to you personally.
"I see.",Brand said, offering the 'Boss' as seat.
"Well that is good......
Of course, I am always pleased to see you, old friend, and in Jim's case there may be some chance that we might begin to sort out this strange puzzle.
So let me explain."
Brandt then stood up, and began to pace his spacious office in a 'professorial' manner.
"In cases of amnesia, where it is a matter of a simple trauma, there is usually a loss of memories immediately prior to the traumatic event, and often also an inability to lay down new memories for a short period after the event.
In 'dissociative amnesia', however, there is usually disruption of long term memories, but rarely an inability to lay down new memories - and this, typically, is what we see in Jim's case.
Jim's case is unusual, however, in that his memory loss is strangely, and atypically 'selective'.
His language and motor skills are unaffected, however, his sense of 'self' has almost completely disappeared - meaning, simply that he doesn't know who he is - hence 'Jim' - and alternative name - but not an identity - provided by yourself.
You follow ?", Brandt paused, and puffed on his cigar, and the 'Boss' nodded.
"In addition, and far more seriously, along with the loss of identity is also a loss of almost all memories of his past history - what we term 'episodic memory'.
Where he lived, his parents and/or siblings, how he came to be here - in fact his entire life history.
But strangely, some things he knows: eating, sleeping, speaking, and reading English, and the normal ways of interacting - what we might call 'good manners' - these things he seems to know.
My discussions with Dr Lockwood, from which I have obtained information from interviews that Lockwood has had with people like Frank, the boy Ethan, and this young man Zac, indicate, however, that while 'Jim' can give a good simulation of a boy with an intact understanding of the everyday world, his ignorance of almost all items of modern technology, and even such everyday institutions as a 'restaurant', imply that something very strange is occurring.
A good example was when he was presented with a laptop computer - with which you had generously provided for him - and he had no idea what it was, what it was for, or how to use it.", Brandt explained.
"Yes...I've heard about these problems, and for that reason I never let Jim go anywhere on his own.", the 'Boss' explained.
"That's good !", Brandt agreed.
"Now what I want you to understand....", Brandt said, taking a seat directly opposite the 'Boss', "is that Jim is not psychotic...".
"You mean 'crazy', as Ethan would so bluntly put it.", the 'Boss' interrupted.
"Exactly...", Brandt agreed.
"He's not suffering from schizophrenia, paranoia, or any other psychosis, and he's not suffering from depression, or any form of 'bi-polar' disorder."
"So what is his problem ?", the 'Boss' asked, looking bewildered.
"Well, as I have already suggested, it is a very unusual form of 'dissociative amnesia' - and I have a theory that may begin to explain what this unusual form is.", Brandt said.
"So... go on..", the 'Boss' said, sitting forward on his chair.
"Well, it's something like this.
The mind, just like 'nature', abhors a vacuum. - and with a 'catastrophic memory loss', such as we see in Jim's case, then the mind may begin to manufacture it's own memories.
It's rather in the same way that when there is an area missing in the visual field, the mind fills in the gaps with appropriate imagery.
In Jim's case he seems to be beginning to take certain aspects of this environment, and using them to construct new, but false, memories.
"I don't really follow, doctor, can you explain a little more simply.", the 'Boss' asked, looking puzzled.
"Well, a couple of examples spring to mind.
To begin with, Jim imagined he recognised you from his past, in relation to his parents.
Now that is easily explained, as he probably thinks of you as a 'father-figure'.
Also he feels that he recognises Ethan from somewhere else.
Now maybe he has seen Ethan in the town somewhere, before he came to you, or more likely he is simply adding Ethan, to whom he is very attracted, into his new collection of manufactured past memories.
More interesting was Jim's response to Zac (see above) - which was very strong, and involved him fainting.
His explanation to me was that he had a previous memory of Zac in a 'classical' setting, - probably derived from a brief glimpse from the limo of Caesars Palace, with its columns and statues.
Strangest of all was the occasion when he recited a phrase in Latin - of which he denied any knowledge, but which I suspect is part of a developing confabulation, relating to his false memories."
The 'Boss' looked startled.
"And is this something that we should be worried about ?", he asked.
Brandt flipped through his notes.
"Well... not at the moment....
You must understand that with a huge existential gap in his identity, Jim naturally has an unconscious need to fill that gap, - however, it is important that he eventually comes to understand that any memories that his psyche might manufacture are not genuine memories, and it is important that we do not encourage him to start living in some 'fantasy world' ", Brandt concluded.
"Of course." the 'Boss' agreed.
"The big problem, however, is how to reach the genuine memories, which presumably Jim is afraid to face, and which he is now hiding behind these fantasy 'screen memories'.
At present I am still working on that problem.
For the moment, however, I want to continue seeing Jim regularly, and I want him to continue interacting with his associates - including yourself, normally.
There should be no attempt to force him remember anything, but if he wants to discuss the past, that should be permitted.
Ensure that he takes plenty of exercise, and continue to encourage him to take part in ordinary, everyday pursuits.", Brandt concluded.
"Well thank you, Doctor.
I am most grateful for the efforts you are making with the boy, and please don't hesitate to contact myself or Dr, Lockwood should you wish to discuss the matter further."
And with that, the 'Boss' left Dr. Brandt's office.
In the late afternoon Jim and Zac returned to the Penthouse - mainly to see how Ethan was recovering from his morning session of jogging.
Frank, riding 'shotgun', as he like to put it, slid out of the front seat, looked carefully around, and then opened one of the rear doors.
The 'Boss' stepped out onto the side-walk, and instantly made his way into the offices of the renowned psychiatrist.
Dr. Brandt |
Brandt then stood up, and began to pace his spacious office in a 'professorial' manner.

and don't forget to come back
In the late afternoon Jim and Zac returned to the Penthouse - mainly to see how Ethan was recovering from his morning session of jogging.
When Jim an Zac arrived at the penthouse, Ethan was lying by the large outdoor pool.
"So, how are we now ?", Zac asked.
"We... have legs that are aching very, very badly", Ethan said quietly.
"Except that it's not 'we' - 'cause your'e not aching at all - it's only poor little me !", Ethan continued in mock anger.
"Yes...well, that's just because your'e out of condition." Zac explained.
"But now we're going to the fitness centre, so get your Speedos and towels, sweatpants, trainers and tops, and I'll call Chuck.", Zac said cheerfully.
"You must be fuckin' jokin' !", Ethan said wearily.
"Not at all ....'Bosss's orders", Zac replied.
"Come on Ethan...no point in arguing, unless you want an interview with the 'Boss' tomorrow." Jim said, as he headed for the bedroom to get his kit.
And Ethan followed, looking despairing , while Zac made a call on his mobile.
Once they has all gathered their kit, they sat in the main living room while Clare cleaned up around them.
Weight-Training Gloves |
Then, after a short drive, they arrived at the 'Fitness Centre'.
Once Zac had 'booked in' the three of them, he took them to the Gym shop, where he bought both Ethan and Jim some training gloves - essential for preventing callouses on the hands, and ensuring comfort while training.
It was when buying the gloves that Jim first saw a credit-card.
Careful, however, not to embarrass Zac, Jim decided to wait until they got back to the penthouse before asking for an explanation.
It was when buying the gloves that Jim first saw a credit-card.
Careful, however, not to embarrass Zac, Jim decided to wait until they got back to the penthouse before asking for an explanation.
They went to the locker rooms and changed for the gym.
Zac had booked a private weight-room, equipped with both free weights and machines, so that their would be no distractions or interference from other club members.
What Jim did notice in the locker room, however, was that a number of very well muscled young men involved Zac in conversations that seemed more like business meetings that casual chats - and it was obvious that Zac was very well known at the club.
Jim, however, was relieved that nobody accosted him in the changing rooms, as he was not only slightly intimidated by some the the club members, but there was also the problem of entering into casual conversation where his inability to provide any personal information might prove awkward.
So....once they were all ready, they moved off to their private training room, where Zac immediately took command, demonstrating the various pieces of equipment, and indicating which body-parts the various items of equipment were designed to exercise.
Zac was intensely serious in his approach to training, and gave Ethan and Jim each a small writing pad (old style pencil and paper - just for the day) to be used to record information about each exercise that he was showing them.
He also told them that for their next training session he would provided them both with 'tablets' (Jim had no idea what a 'tablet' was), which they would use to record their training activity (resistance, repetitions and sets - all new terms for Ethan and Jim), and their progress, and this would apparently enable Zac to design appropriate routines of exercises which would be most beneficial for them.
It would also provide the 'Boss' with important information about the boy's activities.
Jim was expecting Ethan to make objections to all this organisation and 'regimentation', but instead Ethan seemed only too happy to go along with all of Zac's suggestions.
Zac was sympathetic with regard to Ethan's aches and pains which had resulted from his jogging, and so he let the lad simply learn and watch a he put Jim through some legs exercises.
The, after finishing off with a session for the 'abs', Zac took them back to the locker rooms, in order to change into their Speedos for a session in the pool.
Because Jim had only arrived at the Club Jaguar with the clothes he had stood up in, he was short of some essential items.
Zac had booked a private weight-room, equipped with both free weights and machines, so that their would be no distractions or interference from other club members.

Zac at the Pool |
The 'Boss' had bought him casual and formal clothes, and some sport gear, but there had been no suitable swimwear at the mall.
Fortunately Ethan had a spare pair of Speedos, which Jim was able to use.
And so Ethan and Jim made their way to the showers, and then to the pool, wearing identical dark blue Speedos, and looking a little like two lost members of a synchronised swimming team.
Zac, on the other hand was wearing a very expensive looking pair of multi-coloured trunks, which Jim later learned were of Japanese design and manufacture.
Jim felt exceptionally relaxed, but also hungry after his swim, and when Zac suggested that they went back to the 'Club Jaguar' he was quite happy to take up the offer, with the proviso that it would not involve meeting the 'Boss' - as Jim didn't really feel up to a long conversation with the 'Boss' about his last visit to Dr. Brandt.
Jim, of course, didn't realize that the 'Boss' had already visited Brandt, and had had a long discussion with him about Jim's condition.
Zac assured Jim that they wouldn't meet with the 'Boss', as he had other engagements that evening, and that they could have an enjoyable meal, and then return to the penthouse, where Zac would show Jim and Ethan some more ways of using their new laptops.
Once again Chuck drove them back to the club.
There were four restaurants in the Club Jaguar, and Zac chose the most informal.
The fact that it was also the cheapest was neither here nor there, as Zac was not required to pay.
Ethan, nor surprisingly, wanted a huge meal of hamburger steaks - with all the trimmings, and so Zac and Jim followed suit, just to make things easier.
The service was excellent, doubtless because Zac was doing the ordering, and once they started of their succulent steaks, Zac began chatting.
"So.... Jim, by the look of you, in the pool, you've, done quite a lot of training in the past.", Zac commented.
"Which gym did you use ?".
Ethan looked up expectantly, wondering what the answer would be.
"I don't know...I mean I can't remember.", Jim said, stuttering.
"Really ....", Zac said, looking surprised.
"So you actually have that much of a problem with your memory ?", Zac half asked.
"He does !", Ethan said, in between mouthfuls.
"H'e got a wonky brain.", Ethan added.
Zac smiled.
"Well, that's not a very subtle way to put it, Ethan, but I see what you mean.", Zac added.
"Any way - regardless of your memory, you looked really good in the pool !", Zac said, with an obvious twinkle in his eye.
Jim,who had no memory problems for recent events, thought back to their time in the pool, and he smiled.
He remembered that when he had seen Zac in his tiny, multi-panelled trunks, (see above), he had almost immediately felt his 'dick' stirring in his Speedos, and had made some feeble excuse about needing to urinate.
Anxious not to let the growing bulge in his trunks show, he had dived into a shower, locked the door, and flopped down on the floor as he frantically pulled his dark blue Speedos down.
He had then made short work of his overwhelming urge, fantasizing a weird combination of fucking, and being fucked by Zac.
The combined fantasies were enough, and very soon he was splattering himself with his thick, creamy boy-jizz, and trying not to groan.
A quick burst from the shower, and a few moments to get himself together, and he then sorted out his Speedos, adjusted his rapidly shrinking bulge, and was back out in the pool with no one knowing - apparently.
Jim, at that point decided to bring his reverie to an end, partly because he didn't want to become 'aroused' again, and also because an awkward silence had developed.
"So tell me, Zac,", Jim began, trying to sound casual, "when you bought the gloves you used a card, and not money.
So what's going on there ?"
Ethan shook his head, but thought better of it, and said nothing.
Zac then went into an involved explanation about credit cards, and then turned on Jim's laptop in order to show him how to order 'online'.
This little lesson began with information about how to make a search of the internet - in this case using Google.
Zac then gave a description of the type of swimwear that the 'Boss' had specified - similar to the trunks that Zac had been wearing at the pool, and helped Jim with an internet search, while Ethan looked on.
Eventually Jim found some suitable items at a good price, and Zac showd him how to arder and pay for them.
Jim, sot surprisingly was amazed - and then wanted to search for all sorts of other things.
